Quickstart
Get a Topolab API key and pull your first dataset in five minutes, using the REST API, the OGC API, or an SDK.
Quickstart
Five minutes from zero to data. You will create an API key, make an authenticated request, and pull a dataset.
1. Get an API key
Create a free account, you get 10,000 credits per month, no card required. In the account portal, open API keys and create one. The key is shown once and looks like:
tlb_prod_3f9a2c7e8b1d4056a1c2e3f4a5b6c7d8
Copy it somewhere safe. Every machine request sends it in the X-API-Key header.
2. Make your first request
List the datasets available to you (this endpoint is public and costs no credits):
curl "https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/all?limit=5"
3. Pull a dataset
Download a dataset as GeoJSON. Dataset downloads require the API_ACCESS addon and cost 10 credits:
curl -H "X-API-Key: tlb_prod_..." \
"https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/transport_infrastructure_bushaltes/files/geojson" \
-o transport_infrastructure_bushaltes.geojson
Prefer to inspect before you spend credits? Pull a free sample instead:
curl "https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/transport_infrastructure_bushaltes/sample/json"
The three ways in
Pick whichever fits your stack:
- SDK (preview),
pip install topolabornpm install @topolab/sdkfor an idiomatic client. See SDKs. - OGC API (GA), point QGIS, ArcGIS, or any OGC client at
https://api.topolab.nl/v1/ogc. See OGC API. - REST (GA), direct HTTP, as above. See Datasets API.
Next steps
- Authentication, keys, the
X-API-Keyheader, and Bearer tokens for account endpoints. - Your first request, the request/response shape in detail.
- Rate limits & credits, what each call costs.
