How do I access coordinates and high-value data?
Coordinates, full exports and spatial querying need an active license and credits. This maps each gated capability to what it requires, and explains the WGS84 reference system.
Coordinates and full exports need a valid API key and an active license for the dataset; historical archives, and QGIS/ArcGIS over the OGC API, are Team / Enterprise plan capabilities; PostGIS SQL is Enterprise-only.
1. What is gated
Metadata, field analysis and samples are always free, and API access itself is free on every plan. Downloads and coordinates additionally need an active license for the dataset and cost credits; OGC/GIS access and historical archives are Team / Enterprise plan capabilities — so the schema is open to inspect, and you pay only for the data you actually pull.
2. The coordinates endpoint
GET /v1/dataset/:table/coordinates returns a JSON array of WGS84 lng/lat pairs — the fastest way to plot points without pulling every attribute. It requires an X-API-Key and an active license for the dataset and costs 15 credits. The mapUrl on the dataset record points at this same endpoint.
curl -H "X-API-Key: tlb_prod_..." \
"https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/nl-domino-poi/coordinates"
3. Full exports and archives
Full exports (GET /v1/dataset/:table/files/:format) also require an active license for the dataset and cost 10 credits each. CSV and JSON include longitude/latitude columns; GeoJSON and KML carry the geometry directly. Historical archive months are a Team / Enterprise plan capability at 20 credits each.
4. Spatial querying and GIS
For server-side spatial filtering, PostGIS SQL access (POST /v1/sql/query) runs read-only SELECTs with the full PostGIS toolkit — it is Enterprise-only. For desktop GIS clients such as QGIS and ArcGIS, use the OGC API — a Team / Enterprise plan capability — rather than the SQL or coordinates endpoints.
One reference systemAll coordinates and geometry Topolab serves are WGS84 (EPSG:4326). RD New (EPSG:28992) is not served, and GeoJSON coordinates are ordered [longitude, latitude].
