Make your first API request
Go from zero to data: list datasets with a public call that costs no credits, then pull a full dataset with your API key.
Base URL and versioning
All endpoints live under the versioned production prefix https://api.topolab.nl/v1. The API uses URI versioning and v1 is current.
A public request
Listing datasets needs no key and costs no credits, so you can browse before spending anything. The response is a paginated envelope with data, page, limit, and total.
curl "https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/all?limit=5&country=nl"
An authenticated request
Pull a dataset as GeoJSON. Send the key in X-API-Key; a full download requires a valid API key and an active license for the dataset, and costs 10 credits. Want to inspect the schema first? Pull the free sample, which needs no key and costs nothing.
# Full download (10 credits, needs an active dataset license)
curl -H "X-API-Key: tlb_prod_..." \
"https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/nl-domino-poi/files/geojson" \
-o nl-domino-poi.geojson
# Free sample (no key, 0 credits)
curl "https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/nl-domino-poi/sample/json"
Reading responses2xx means success; listing endpoints return a paginated envelope while file endpoints stream the file. 401 means a missing or invalid key, 403 means the key lacks the required permission or you don't have an active license for that dataset, 402 means insufficient credits, 404 is an unknown dataset table, and 429 means you hit a rate limit.
