How do I read a dataset detail page?
A dataset page is the authoritative truth surface: description, quality grade, per-field profile, sample links and refresh cadence. Learn what each part tells you before you spend a credit.
1. Fetch one dataset by table
Open any dataset under /datasets/[table], or call GET /v1/dataset/:table. This is public and costs no credits, so use it to decide whether a dataset is worth a paid download. Pass locale=en (default) or locale=nl to localize the title and description.
curl "https://api.topolab.nl/v1/dataset/nl-domino-poi?locale=en"
2. Metadata and quality grade
The record carries a localized title and description, country, totalRecords, and a metadata block: theme, accrualPeriodicity (refresh cadence), modified (most recent refresh), issued (first published), keywords, spatial coverage and license. The qualityGrade gives a letter grade (A–F) and numeric score (0–1) at a glance.
3. Inspect the schema without downloading
The fieldAnalysis array is a per-field profile: each entry has the field name, type, nullRatio, distinctCount, and numeric min/max where applicable. This lets you evaluate coverage and completeness without pulling a single row.
The record also exposes sampleCsvUrl and sampleJsonUrl (free samples), a mapUrl pointing at the coordinates endpoint (which consumes credits when fetched), and a thumbnailUrl.
Coordinates are always WGS84Topolab serves geometry in WGS84 (EPSG:4326) only — it does not serve RD New (EPSG:28992).
4. Which products sell this dataset
To find the commerce products that bundle a dataset, call GET /v1/dataset/:table/products (public, zero credits). It returns each product's price, license and slug so you can link to a purchase page. Some datasets are B2B-only and have no product — then the array is empty.
The only errors to handle are 404 for an unknown table and 429 when rate limited.
